Careers in Education is a course designed to prepare students for professional or learning support positions in education, pre-kindergarten through grade twelve. Students study human development, education regulations and procedures, positive guidance and counseling, age appropriate and grade level learning strategies, learning theories, and standards-based lesson design and class management. Students will apply and practice their knowledge at a variety of elementary and secondary schools with a minimum of 50 hour community classroom. Students will develop a professional portfolio which will document their learning experiences through reflective journals, demonstrating pedagogy practices. This course prepares students for entry into college or university teacher-training programs.
