This course is a capstone course that prepares students for a variety of entry-level positions with banks, credit unions, insurance companies, finance companies, and savings associations. Areas of instruction and on-the-job experience include: teller duties, finance terminology, check cashing, deposits, customer sales and service, etc. Math is integrated throughout the course on a daily basis through class instruction and financial industry application. Students also receive an overview of micro- and macro-economics. This course is the hands-on Work-Based Learning experience CTE course that is taken in conjunction with the Banking and Finance capstone course. Students earn 37 banking skills certificates as part of this program, and work in the High School Student-Run Branch Banking Program by Union Bank which was designed to serve communities while promoting financial education and giving high school students insight into the world of banking as well as leadership and professional development.
